Alec Bohm’ Gets The Ben Simmons Philadelphia Treatment

Philadelphia fans are passionate. They’ll also let you know when you’re wrong, just ask Ben Simmons. Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm understood what it really means to play in the city on Monday after a tough game on the field.

Bohm made three errors early in the game which led to boos around the stadium. But when he finally made a good throw at first base to register an out on the errors, the fans sarcastically cheered and cheered him on. It wouldn’t have been so bad if the Phillies broadcast hadn’t caught Bohm making derogatory comments about the fans and the city. Bohm could be seen saying the following sentence as he was mocked by fans.

“I [expletive] hate this place.

Bohm was asked about the comments after the Phillies’ 5-4 win over the Mets. He surprisingly confessed to saying what most people thought he said after reading his lips on camera. Most athletes would be reluctant to take responsibility, but Bohm provided a very mature answer.

“Listen, emotions got the better of me. I said it. Do I mean it? No. It’s a frustrating night for me, obviously. … These people, these fans, they just want to win. …I don’t mean that.

Will Alec Bohm still get booed in his next fight and get the Ben Simmons treatment? Perhaps. But it looks like he’ll try to work things out with the fans. The former top prospect is looking for a breakout season in 2022 as the Phillies aim to make the playoffs.
